Write or Die

Putting the "Prod" in Productivity

Public Service Announcement: You never need to buy the Desktop Edition more than once.

Posted 197 days ago by drwicked

I noticed several people commenting on the last post saying that they were planning on buying it again because they’d lost their first installation.

NO ONE EVER NEEDS TO DO THIS

Over on the right hand side of the page is the “Request New Download Link” menu item. All you have to do is email newlink@drwicked.com and I will send you a new install link straight away. The only reason the download link expires is because I don’t want just anyone to download it, only the people who have paid for it.

Again I reiterate, as much as it’s very kind of you to pay me again:
YOU ONLY NEED TO BUY THE DESKTOP EDITION ONCE

Thank you.

    Tried that… but I shall try again…

  2. Psychosako says:

Srsly? That’d be effing amazing. ::sends off email::

  3. Vimsikaal says:

I’m recommending this program to all of my friends, and even though I haven’t bought it yet, I think I will when I cease to be poor. It’s helped me maintain a daily quota of writing everyday, and I don’t think I could have done it without this! YOU KICK ASS DR. WICKED!

  4. Cattie says:

Dr. Wicked, I wish your blog, like another doctor’s we know, was of the singalong variety.

  5. Penrefe says:

Unless, like me, you can’t remember which e-mail address you registered the software with ;) I’ve sent a number of requests in the past, which haven’t been answered, and I’ve always assumed it’s because I don’t remember which e-mail address I used to register it. I will try again with a few e-mail alias variants. Thanks for PSA’ing the link.

  6. papa says:

A good idea for write or die (i know this is horendously off topic) is to remove the functionality of the backspace key. I hate it so much!

  7. Wally says:

My request is a bit more complicated than most, thanks to a series of wacky shenanigans and unforeseen circumstances, but I have sent my e-mail! Hopefully you can help me out; I miss the Desktop Edition. If by some chance it does become necessary, and I can figure out how to get PayPal to respond to my queries, I would gladly pay for it again!

  8. PipPipperton says:

Woe is me, Dr. Wicked, for your website will not let me email you!

  9. This is a totally selfish question but I have to ask. About a year ago (maybe?) I bought the desktop version of write or die but I stopped using it completely because I *hate* Adobe Air. (I run Linux, your application had minor issues — nothing really major — but I really just hate even having Adobe Air installed and/or running). Any chance that you’ll write a OS specific version of the application? Absent that, are you aware of anything that provides similar functionality as a desktop app (specifically for Linux)? Perhaps an add-on for a text editor or something? (See, I said it was a selfish question).

At any rate: I love the application itself, the idea behind it, and I recommend it frequently to others. Thanks for creating it.

  10. Adrienne says:

I’ve sent multiple emails requesting a link but still haven’t gotten a new link. And I know I’m using the correct email, so what do I need to do to get a new download link?

  11. Tony says:

    I’m one of the believers!

I asked for a new code after my hard drive crashed, but Dr. Wicked didn’t have the e-mail address I used…

Because I used my wife’s e-mail when I bought it. Once the snafu on my end was cleared up, I’m back to being a happy Write or Die fan!

    Use it. Love it.

    Thanks Doc!

  12. I find this ironic because I have emailed you three times requesting exactly that, another download link, and you never respond. Unfortunately I emailed you directly. Maybe emailing newlink@drwicked.com will yield different results.

  13. Hi — I’ve also emailed three times and would really really like a new link. Pretty please!

  14. becka says:

That’s useful *sends an enail via the link*

  15. Miriam Joy says:

I just came onto your website now to see if I could do such a thing! Ahh very helpful for you to post this now :)

  16. Lynn says:

I received my link (thank you!) but I was out of town for a few days and it has expired, I guess… anyway, it says I have no downloads available. Can it be reactivated or should I make a new request? tyvm :)

  17. Casey says:

How long does it usually take to get the download link? My payment went through yesterday.

  18. Sharon says:

I’ve emailed twice and still no reply :/

  19. Ricky says:

That’s a relief. I’ve purchased it twice and I just bought new computers for my house and was coming back to see if there was a way around that this time.

  20. Mariah Burkett says:

I just paid ten dollars on pay pal for this item, but where do I download it at? Do I request a new download link?

  21. Mariah Burkett says:

Oh whoops, never mind going to check email.

  22. Sheri says:

Though I would really like to choose that I am fundametally opposed to anything awesome (as this would explain many of my choices), I respect that you put this question out there…so: the reason that I am not yet willing to put forth $10 is that I am, like so many writers, afraid to commit to anything that will make me write. Yet, I am intrigued by the idea of this site and want to give it a try. Thank you for creating it. If I use it like I hope I will (I am very connected to my words and would hate to lose any of them) I will happily pay 10.00. It’s not a lot. Tho, I think people get really excited if they see something for under 5.00, especially with a .99. Good luck to you.

  23. Still waiting for my link! Please send it asap.

  24. Rick says:

Acrobat Air thing is no longer supported under Linux, and the 64 bit version has never worked. *sigh* So looks like I’ll have to write a version for myself in Python or Mono before November Wrimo starts in 5 days…

  25. Vestri says:

I just returned to the website today to find this out, if I had to buy it again, but I don’t! WOOHOO! Gettin’ geared up for NaNoWriMo!

  26. Helen says:

How long does it take to get a new download link?

  27. M Lightfoot says:

Would this be the same if you wanted to install it on two computers? I’d like to have it on my work computer as well for when I’m on lunch…

  28. Jane says:

I’ve purchased Write or Die twice in the past because of losing it on crashed laptops. I emailed on 8 December asking for a new download link as my old laptop died and the progams couldn’rt be accessed.

    Still waiting.

Are you not supporting the product any more?

  29. Urge says:

Dude, If you can’t follow through with promises, don’t make them. You haven’t returned any of my e-mails. I don’t want to have to buy this thing again. I’m about ready to just give up on the whole thing. I guess I’ll keep using the web app and maybe burn up enough of your bandwidth to make you reconsider, but it seems unlikely.

  30. Katie says:

I ordered the pc app a month ago through paypal and still haven’t received the download link or received a reply from my emails.
